What to Do with Wet Devices and Tablets

Person using gadgets

Getting your electronics soaking wet is one of the things that you surely would not want to happen. These things are usually very expensive, and getting them wet can ruin them. Water damage is one of the most dreaded accidents for iPad and tablet owners, so now there are many ways you can revive your iPad before finally bringing it to a tablet repair shop in Utah.

Turn it Off

Do not repeatedly tap on it, shake it, charge it, or connect it to another device, as this might inflict further damage to it. Make sure to turn it off right away and hand-dry it with a soft microfiber towel. Remove the sim card if you can and pat down excess water or moisture that you see on the device.

Make sure to especially wipe the charging port, headphone port, speakers, and camera, as these are the things that are very susceptible to damage when it comes to wetting your device.

Try the Rice Trick

You won’t lose anything if you try the good old rice trick. It has worked for many, so really, what is the harm in trying it? After wiping your tablet or iPad, make sure to place it in a bag of uncooked rice and leave it there for 48 hours. Alternatively, you can also add silica packages to the rice, as this will further help with absorbing the moisture from your tablet or iPad.

Do not forget to take it out after 48 hours, and make sure to keep it off while it is drying in the process.

Immediately Check for Water Damage

Most Apple devices have a water damage indicator in the sim card slot. You will see this piece of plastic that will change from white to red if ever it gets wet. If you cannot see the indicator, then use a flashlight to take a peek of the clear plastic. If it is still white, then you are still safe, and you can take the device to a repair store, as it is most likely still under warranty.

If it has turned red though, then your warranty might have just been broken, and that means that the water has seeped through your device. Try leaving it off for a couple of days, do the rice trick, and see if it turns back on.

Bring it to the Repair Store

The first thing that you should do is to bring your device to the repair store. This would be the most sensible thing to do, as doing anything else could ruin your device.

However, bringing your device to the repair store ASAP might be a huge lifesaver for your tablet or iPad. Just be prepared to pay for the damages, especially if the warranty is null.

Always keep your iPad or tablet in a safe case or bag and keep it away from dining tables. This is especially important if you are planning on selling your electronic device in the future, as no one would buy a worn-out iPad or tablet. Take good care of your device and treat it as a considerable investment.
